Is this you?
Three checks you can do right now.
Stand near a window, no makeup if you can manage it. Two out of three is a strong signal.
01
Gold or silver?
Hold a gold piece to your jaw, then a silver one. Watch your skin, not the metal.
gold vs. silverTrue Spring ifGold picks up the warmth already in your skin, and silver puts a faint grey cast under your eyes.
02
What does black do?
Put on a pure black top. Then swap it for camel or warm ivory and look at your face again.
True Spring ifBlack sits on you like a flat block and pulls the color out of your face, and camel gives it back.
03
Clear or dusty?
Hold a true tomato red against your neckline, then a dusty terracotta in the same family.
True Spring ifThe clear tomato looks like it was mixed for you, and the dusty version makes your skin look tired.
If it’s close
The three you might be instead.
- Light SpringYou, lighter and softer. If tomato red feels loud and peachy coral feels right, it is this one.
- Bright SpringYou, cooler and more saturated. Cobalt and watermelon rather than cornflower and coral.
- True AutumnYour warm cousin, deeper and dustier. Rust and olive over tomato and leaf green.
The reading
Warm and clear, together.
You’re the one who looks like she brought the sunshine. Warm honey or strawberry-blonde hair, peachy skin that freckles in summer, clear blue-green or warm hazel eyes. You wear cream and tomato red and camel and look like a Ralph Lauren advertisement. You don’t do moody. You don’t do icy. And you’ve been told your whole life that you look cheerful — which is partly your personality and partly your coloring doing the work.
Here’s the part nobody tells you: most of the fashion advice online is written cool. True black, icy pastels, slate grey, dark jewel tones. Those colors pull the gold out of your skin and leave you looking slightly unwell, even though they would be beautiful on a Winter friend. What you want instead is warm, clear, fresh — the palette of a farm stand in July. Tomato red. Leaf green. Cornflower. Marigold. Warm cream and camel underneath.
Your advantage is that you can wear saturated color that would look like costume on someone else. The rule is one clear color at a time. A tomato sweater over cream pants. A cornflower dress with camel sandals. Two bright tones fighting each other is the only way this palette goes wrong.
If you’ve always reached for warm clear colors and felt a small pang of doubt in something stark or moody — welcome. Your instinct was right. The rest is permission and refinement.
Same color, your version
Swap it, don’t skip it.
Almost nothing is off-limits. It is about which version of a color belongs to you.
- Instead ofBlack & optic whiteCamel & warm ivoryYour neutrals.
Black and optic white are the two coldest things you can put at your neckline, and your face has gold in it. Camel and warm ivory hold the same graphic contrast with the warmth left in.
- Instead ofCool grey & navyCamel & cornflowerThe office pair.
Grey and navy are built on blue-black, so next to warm skin they read slightly dirty. Cornflower is a blue with daylight in it, and camel does the grounding grey was meant to do.
- Instead ofPlum & icy pinkTomato red & coralWear these at the face.
Cool berry pigments compete with the warmth in your cheeks, so your color starts to look uneven. Tomato and coral run in the same direction as your skin and it evens out.
- Instead ofSage & oliveLeaf green & honeyGreen, with the dust off.
Muted earth greens are warm enough but have grey mixed in, and grey is the one ingredient your coloring cannot absorb. Same hue at full clarity and it comes alive.
The details
Denim, metals, prints.
Denim
Warm white
Light warm
Mid warm
Stark indigo · not this
Warm white, a warm light wash, a warm mid blue. Stark dark indigo is the one to leave — it sets up a hard cold edge under a face built on clarity and warmth.
Metals
- Yellow gold
- Copper
- Bronze
- Bright silver
Yellow gold first, then copper and bronze. Warm metal mirrors the gold already in your skin and lifts your features — silver and platinum sit cool and slightly apart from you. Rose gold bridges the two if you need it to.
Prints
Ditsy floral
Brushstroke
Check
Small ditsy florals in warm clear colors, loose brushstroke prints, crisp gingham and warm stripe. Anything that reads as a sunny picnic. Muted earth-tone prints and dark watercolor florals go muddy on you — the print needs to keep its edges.
Fabric
Crisp cotton, linen, fine wool, silk. Texture is welcome, but choose fabrics that hold their color cleanly rather than dulling it. Suede and tweed pull you toward Autumn — if you love them, take them in warmer, brighter tones.
Build the base
The staples worth owning.
Six pieces that make a True Spring wardrobe work. Get these in your colors and everything you already own starts coordinating with everything else.
- Camel trench
- Warm-ivory poplin shirt
- Tomato-red knit
- Leaf-green silk piece
- Cornflower dress
- Yellow-gold everyday jewelry

Reference points
Women who read this way.
Working hypotheses from photographs, not formal drapings — useful for training your eye.
Reese Witherspoon
Honey blonde, freckled peach skin, clear blue-green eyes. Warm cream, gingham, soft tomato red. In muted earth tones she looks lovely but slightly dimmed.
Emma Stone
In her natural red-haired state. Warm coral, leaf green, honey — the colors she visibly lights up in.
Sienna Miller
The easy pull toward warm cream, tomato red and camel. Tuscan summer with English country edges.
Nicole Kidman
In her natural auburn years. Fair-warm skin, clear blue eyes — luminous warm, fought by platinum.
Amy Adams
Often placed at the Bright Spring border. Her best moments are coral, warm coral-pink, clear teal.
The common thread is clarity and warmth together. Cream, never cool ivory. Tomato red, never cool crimson. Leaf green, never sage. Once you see the True Spring effect, you’ll spot it on every woman who looks like she is standing in better light than everyone around her.
Still deciding
Common questions.
- Is True Spring the same as Warm Spring?
- Yes. Warm Spring and True Spring are two names for the same season, from two ways of naming the twelve. One names a season by where it sits in the system, the other by what the coloring looks like. Your Style Hue uses True Spring throughout. If you were told you are a Warm Spring, this is your page and this is your palette.
- True Spring or Light Spring?
- Both are warm Springs. Light Spring is lighter and softer — closer to a watercolor version. True Spring is the most saturated of the warm Springs, so you can wear a true tomato red at full strength where a Light Spring would prefer peachy coral. If pure tomato feels right rather than loud, you are True Spring.
- True Spring or Bright Spring?
- True Spring is warmer; Bright Spring is slightly cooler but more saturated. True Spring at peak is honey, leaf green, tomato. Bright Spring at peak is cobalt, watermelon, citrus — same family, brighter dial. If yellow gold is obviously yours over silver, you are probably True Spring. If both metals work, you are probably Bright.
- True Spring or True Autumn?
- Both warm. True Spring is brighter and lighter; True Autumn is deeper and dustier. A True Spring in pure rust looks costumed; a True Autumn in pure tomato looks loud. If clear sun-bleached color feels like home, you are Spring. If earthy mineral tones do, you are Autumn.
- Can I wear black?
- Not at your face. Pure black sets a stark cold contrast against warm clear coloring and washes you out. If a dress code requires it, keep it from the waist down — black pants, warm cream blouse — or break the neckline with a warm scarf and gold jewelry. Espresso brown and warm charcoal do the dark-neutral job better.
- Gold or silver jewelry?
- Yellow gold, copper, bronze first — they mirror the warmth in your skin. Silver reads cool and slightly out of step. Rose gold can work because it bridges the two. Mixing metals in small doses is fine, but yellow gold should lead.
- I have red hair naturally. Am I always Spring or Autumn?
- Natural redheads land in one of the three Springs or three Autumns almost every time. The dividing line is usually skin: fair-warm with freckles and clear eyes points Spring; mid-warm with deeper eyes and a dustier overall look points Autumn. The hair alone does not decide it — the rest of your face does.
- Best lipstick shade?
- Warm coral, tomato red, warm pink, peachy nude. Look for "coral," "warm red," "peach," or "warm rose." Skip cool berry, blue-toned reds and brown-mauve nudes, which read muted on you. NARS Heat Wave, Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Medium and MAC See Sheer are the right family.
